A brief history;


  • Richmond is the third state capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States after the previous state capital's of Jamestown & Williamsburg in the American Colonial period.


  • In 1779, the Virginia General Assembly decided to relocate the seat of Virginia's government from Williamsburg to Richmond


  • During the American Civil War, Richmond served as the capital for the Confedorate States of America.


  • Richmond has been an independent city since 1871.
